Families and Students

  • Parent’s Note Or Phone Call About an Absence:

When a student must be absent from school, on the day of the absence, please call the school at 903-839-5551 or complete the Absence Request in Skyward Family Access or the Skyward Mobile App to inform us of the absence. If a phone call has not been made, send a note with the student upon his/her return to school. The note must be signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence. If the student has established a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or the attendance committee may also require a physician’s or clinic’s statement of illness after a single day’s absence as a condition of classifying the absence as one for which there are extenuating circumstances.

For a step-by-step guide on how to enter absence requests, visit the Skyward Family Access Tutorial.

When sending in a note to the office for an absence please include the date of the absence along with the child's first and last name and teacher's name.

Doctor’s Note after an Absence for Illness:
Upon return to school, a student absent for more than four (4) consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. [See FEC (LOCAL).]

Doctor’s Note after an Appointment during the Day:
Students leaving school during the day for a doctor’s appointment can be counted present for time away from school provided they bring a doctor’s note upon returning to school. Students who arrive late due to a doctor’s appointment will be counted present provided they have a note from the doctor.

  • Chromebooks at WHS

At Whitehouse High School, each student is issued a Chromebook to support their learning both in and out of the classroom. Students check out their Chromebook at the beginning of the year, use it daily for assignments and projects, and are able to take it home to extend their learning beyond school hours. At the end of the school year, Chromebooks are returned to the campus for updates and maintenance in preparation for the next year. This 1:1 technology program helps ensure every student has the tools they need for success.

  • The term LRC is a shift from the ‘traditional’ library. Rather than coming as a class to checkout books once a week, students will now have the opportunity to check out new books individually as needed. Our desire is to encourage students to lifelong lovers of reading and literature, as well as effective users of ideas and information.

In the WHS LRC, students will learn to utilize the steps of the engineering design process (ask, research, imagine, plan, create, test, and improve) to help them grow in the areas that Whitehouse ISD values in their students and graduates.

We want to encourage students to become lifelong lovers of reading and literature, effective users of ideas and information, and to guide students to use this information to create ideas and innovate the future.
